Synchronise Across Devices

Purpose

This feature is available in Asrosoft applications in order to automatically share data between different physical devices running the application, and even across different operating systems.

One or more devices can be used as a 'master' and any number of other devices of any type can be clients that are updated automatically.

To enable the feature, select Settings, Data, Backups and then Backup options from the options menu.

Auto restore from Google Drive

Enable this option to automatically update this device if there is a recent backup of the data on Google Drive. When you enable it for the first time, it will request which Google account to retrieve the data from. That will either be via a pop-up on Android devices, or via a browser link on Windows or Linux.

The next time you start the application on this device, it will check the date and time of the last backup on Google Drive, and if it is a later date and time than when you last opened the application on this device, it will download the backup, and restore the device's data from that backup.

Auto backup to Google Drive

You only need enable this option on devices that act as a 'master'. That is if you normally update the data on this machine, and this option is enabled, it will create a backup if any change has been made to the data, and upload that backup to Google Drive.

Configuring a new device

When you set up a new device, make sure the current database name is the same as the database name on the master device. Only those backups specific to that database name will be restored automatically. As a newly configured device will have a database date and time later than the last master's backup, it won't automatically update this device's data from the backup until a new backup is created by the master.

However, after signing in to Google within the application, you can then select 'Restore from Google Drive' from the Backup options menu, in order to force it to restore the last backup regardless of the current database date and time.
